BBG member's calligraphy presented to Queen Camilla

In a recent blog post, I recounted my visit (ahead of its official opening) to the Brontë Birthplace, the house in Thornton where Charlotte, Branwell, Emily and Anne were born.

I mentioned that the souvenirs on sale in the house include a card with a poem by Liliana Pasterska — with the calligraphy and a drawing of the house executed by Brussels Brontë Group member Marina Saegerman.

Opening of Brontë Birthplace in Thornton by Queen Camilla

On 15 May, the Brontë Birthplace was officially opened by Queen Camilla. Her visit is recorded in press reports including this one in the Guardian:

What the press doesn’t report is that the Queen was given a framed copy of Marina’s calligraphy work!

Joanne Wilcock greeting the Queen at Brontë Birthplace

Joanne Wilcock, who spoke to our group in Brussels in October 2024, showed the Queen Marina's calligraphy version of Liliana's poem, which was presented to Camilla as a gift.

Members of the Brussels Brontë Group will be visiting the Brontë Birthplace this summer and will have a chance to view the card themselves.
